Day Out - Great Dorset Steam Fair

Great Dorset Steam Fair

Today Tim and I went to the Great Dorset Steam Fair.  Tim had been before quite a few years ago but I had never been.  We got there at about 8.30 and there were already a lot of people around!  Very quickly I got the idea of the size of the show - way bigger than I had imagined!!  We first had a look around the steam engines...

It didn't take long before we saw some anoraks!!!

We then headed round the rest of the rings, stands and sampled the food!!

Road Laying!!

Axe Men!!

Ploughing!!

Heavy Haulage!!

Steam Organs!!

I really enjoyed the day, now completely shattered and a bit sun burnt - Didn't notice I was burning as it was windy and dusty!!

Sherborne Summer School of Music 2013

Summer School of Music
The Lighter Side Choral Course

Susan Hollingworth assisted by Tim Uglow

From the brochure...
Yet another wild selection of fun pieces - lots of foot stomping stuff with plenty of pure sentimental nostalgia to keep emotions balanced. Several pieces could challenge the hardiest regular but enough of the repertoire is very approachable to ensure our concert will be the success we have come to expect and enjoy.

Be prepared for hard work! This course is not for the timid conservative nor the enthusiastic “sing-along”; a good ear and a secure sense of rhythm are essential and a loud costume for the concert will help!

Our programme consisted of...

from ‘The King’s Singers Irish Songbook’
Phil the Fluter’s Ball arr. Langford
‘Tis the Last Rose of Summer arr. Lawson
Eriskay Love Lilt arr. Carrington
Wexford Carol arr. Chilcott

from ‘In the Mood’
The Continental Conrad/Magidon arr. Blackwell
Autumn Leaves Mercer/Parsons arr. Gritton
I Got Rhythm Gershwin arr. Clapham

The Sheik of Araby arr. Andrew Goff

Three Folk Songs arr. Jonathan Rathbone
O the Oak and the Ash
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Nine Hundred Miles

The Call of Wisdom Will Todd

from Encores for Choirs, Book 2
Buffalo Gals Traditional arr. Chilcott
Wiegenlied Brahms arr. Gritton

Finish Oik

There were a lot of great concerts throughout the week.
