Caving - Honeymead Hole

 Honeymead Hole

Group of 4 - Tim, me, Steve and Mike

We went to Honeymead Hole today.  We were at Crapnell Farm by 11 and got all kitted up.  It is only a short walk form the car into the field where the cave entrance is.  Tim and I went down the 8m entrance shaft first, a further 3m climb leads into a chamber called Slab House, Tim rigged the first pitch - The walls are quite loose so the ladder provides all the hand and foot holds!  A short squeeze led to the Watershed and the next pitch - a 5m pot.  I abseiled down it and Tim, Steve and Mike climbed down with a lifeline.  The next section it a series of narrow awkward passage - on the way a small chamber - Somerville Hall is off to the right.  At the end of the passage we reached the top of the main pitch - Keen's Pot - a nice 25ft climb to a dripping chamber below! Down to the right at the bottom of the pitch is Kryptonite Passage that leads to the prettiest aven in the whole cave.

While Tim and Steve continued up the muddy passage Mike and I carried on down to have a look at Chalice Well.

On the way out we made our way up the main pitch.  At the top we had a look down the side passage down Balcony Pot 6m through Blood Alley to Neptune Hall.

We made our way out and got to the surface about 13:15.

Back at the caving club Tim wrote up out trip in the club log book...
