Yorkshire/Shropshire Holiday
Day Two
Today we went to Hidden Earth - the UK's annual caving conference, hosted by the British Cave Research Association and the British Caving Association for the benefit of all cavers. It was held in a Sixth Form College in Burnley. We had never been to one of these before - there were trade stands there and various talks going on. We had a couple of hours before the talks we were interested in were on. We went into the trade hall and had a look around. I got the Wookey Hole Exploration book that I have been wanting for a while and also a copy of Who Was Aveline Anyway? I also wanted to go to the Starless River Stand to get some wetsuit socks - they are the only people that seem to sell them in a size 4!!!
We then went to listen to some talks. We wanted to go and listen to the Peak District Round up and the Northern Round up and then there was a Beginners Workshop for Cave Photography.
The talks were interesting - especially the photography one as it was aimed at people using bog standard digital cameras. The Northern Round Up also contained a section on Cave Diving.
It finished an hour late and with a combination of bad weather and taking the wrong route we eventually got back to Cawthorne just gone 20:00!! Tony had got home from his boys weekend in the Lake District and Jen had cooked a lovely roast dinner.
We heard from Richard who was due to meet us tomorrow for caving unfortunately rang with a weather update. A lot of the caves were flooding in the Mendips from the heavy rain and it was heading towards us!! After looking at local reports and talking to some Yorkshire cavers we know we decided that our original plans were not going to be possible in the bad weather. Richard decided not to join us so we have to come up with another plan for the next few days.
